From the Richtersveld we travelled to the Fish River Canyon, the second largest canyon to that large American one people often talk about. This is where we learnt another of our valuable African lessons. When the road sign says 45km or even 10kms to your destination that doesn’t mean it’s accurate! A bit like road maps, these too are guides and not gospel! The lesson was received when Kevin and I saw the road sign to the canyon lookout point was ONLY 10kms from the campsite so early the following morning we mounted our bicycles and headed out. We didn’t quite beat the sun rise but we were the only people there. In fairness the views were spectacular and so was the silence and the road back also seemed shorter but that could have been to do with the fact it was downhill all the way!
