There was no hurry to leave for Botswana as we were only hopping across the Chobe river. Upon entering the country after an interesting exchange with the Namibian side (and this isn’t even darkest Africa) we had seen elephants, kudu, rhone antelope and giraffes and this was before we were in the Chobe reserve. Setting up camp has been distracting as we can see hippo, crocs, buffalo and elephants. Not to mention the warthogs, mongoose and buck roaming the campsite. The benefit of low season means this is extremely reasonable camping at £5/night alongside a beautiful lodge. Kevin is in his element with binocs in hand watching the crocs off the decking while sipping a Windhoek draught.
Our plans have changed after speaking to some locals so we have headed to Chobe first, will then move to Moremi as the thinking is at this time of year before the November rains arrive the concentration of game will be nearer the river and water courses. From here we will go to the salt pans and on to the Central Kalahari hoping that by that stage the rains would have arrived. We will double back on ourselves and enter Zambia from Kasane. Though that feels like ages away so will keep you posted.
