Following on from Christmas in Ndole bay we weren’t yet ready to bid farewell to Zambia. We headed for the border with Tanzania where Africa’s second highest waterfall is located, Kalambo falls. The water tips over a lip in the great Rift Valley falling straight to the ground some 221m below. This is visual geology – with the side of the rift penetrating steeply to the valley floor below. Kevin excitedly launched into the scientific process by which this was formed – several times, as we wondered along the edge of the Zambian side.
Finally the next day we headed over the hills towards Malawi. Zambia has been a delight, I can remember back to the day of crossing from Botswana at Kasungula and how different it felt with the rain and huge change in people and environment. Though we have not explored every corner the vast differences have been mesmerising as we have driven from west to east and south to north. How the landscape changed with the arrival of the rains, truly turning the never ending forests emerald green.
Thank you Zambia, both the land and people, we will be visiting again!
